Welcome to IEC 61850 Europe 2016

With utility commitment to IEC 61850 now firmly in place, the successful introduction of Edition 2 under way, more extensive implementations of key features and functionalities, and the relative ease with which multi-vendor interoperability is being achieved, this year's IEC 61850 Europe 2016 programme goes beyond utility roadmaps and reveals the success criteria driving the large-scale deployment of IEC 61850 within TSO and DSO organisations. Issues such as securing investment, establishing the right organisational structure, optimising the engineering process, planning for operational excellence and much more, will be discussed in great depth and with complete transparency.

Programme benefits include:

  • Case-Study Programme - hearing from the technical experts and decision makers on the lessons learnt from actual implementations of IEC 61850 within smart grid infrastructures
  • Utility Heavy Speaker Line-Up - selected on the strength of the projects they are involved in, their pivotal roles in implementation decision making, and their insights into lessons learnt and future roadmaps
  • Roundtable Discussions - taking place at the end of conference day one, the audience breaks out into a series of smaller working groups, each discussing a specific theme relating to IEC 61850, and reporting back their findings to the wider group
  • Fundamentals Workshop - run by Christoph Brunner, Chair of the IEC TC 57 WG 10 and taking place the day before the main conference, this separately bookable workshop demystifies the fundamental building blocks of this complex standard and provides a comprehensive understanding of how it can be applied in a variety of scenarios
  • Solution Zone - running alongside the conference, the solution zone is a focused display of IEC 61850 products and services on the market, with experts on hand to discuss delegates' specific challenges and provide tailored advice to help propel their implementation plans to the next level
  • Live Demo Labs - a 1:1 private demonstration, providing delegates with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the most advanced and forward looking IEC 61850 solutions and services on the market
  • Networking Canal Cruise - taking place the evening of conference day one, this complementary networking event is open to all conference participants, and provides the opportunity to relax and unwind, meet with colleagues from across the European smart grid cyber-security community, allow new ideas to cement and new partnership opportunities to emerge
